Great expectations

It’s something every girl dreams of doing some day. The idea of getting married, and having the wedding of your dreams holds such huge romantic appeal. It’s a day you hope will be cherished forever. It’s the celebration of two people in love on a  journey, and one that you’ll share with all the special people in your life. But with the romanticism comes a big dose of pressure. Expectations can be all-consuming, and with the explosion of wedding blogs and magazines you don’t have to look hard to see fairy tale weddings taking place left, right and centre! You crave that picture perfect wedding and will stop at nothing to achieve it. Easier said than done of course; with your brain teaming with ideas and preconceptions about how you want your big day to unfold, at first it can be pretty daunting! The first hurdle is choosing your theme, and from this everything should flow.

I love the glamour and elegance of the 1920s so I used this as a starting point for the overall look and feel of our wedding. I wanted our wedding to be modern with touches of vintage. My hubby to be was adamant that he didn’t want it to be shabby chic or garden party vintage. So we agreed that our overall style would be reminiscent of Old Hollywood Glamour with a modern twist. Having a theme really helped channel my ideas when thinking about my dress, decorations and entertainment for the wedding.

Creative shopping

Our wedding plans are coming along nicely and I’m soooo excited I could jump out of my skin!! We’re heading to Ibiza next week to finalise everything and meet with the wedding planner and florist. I will also be visiting my favourite shop Sluiz to pick up a few bits and bobs to help decorate our wedding space.

Sluiz is more than just a shop it’s a creative destination that inspires and captures your imagination. The Dutch-owned shop specialises in decorative home-wear but also sells quirky books, clothing, jewellery and lingerie. It’s more like a lifestyle boutique with its very own restaurant, bar and art gallery. In the afternoons you can  catch DJs playing chill-out music while you have a mooch around. Now that is retail shopping at its best in my opinion! I love this concept of shopping and would like to do my own version in London…….hmmmm one can only dream x

Just to prove I was there.

This is retail heaven! I love how everything is stacked and organised by colour making it easy to find what you’re looking for.

Taking the plunge

I’m getting married on the 28th July 2012 and I can truly say I’m the happiest I’ve ever been. It feels like life is effortlessly falling into place, and its a good place to be! I feel very lucky to have found my soul mate and I’m thankful everyday for what I have in my life.

I’ve been riding the biggest wave of excitement since the day Will proposed and I plan to ride it as long as I can! The reaction from our family and friends has been incredible and filled us with lots of warm fuzzy feelings. Once it all sinks in though and you can actually think straight the prospect of planning the big day can be slightly overwhelming. So with wedding planning on my mind I thought I would share my adventure here with you. Over the next coming months I plan to share all my tips, secrets and musings. I will cover everything from wedding dress inspiration, unique wedding venues, invite styles, photography, decor, and just about anything else that I stumble upon. Oh and I’m getting married on the beautiful island of Ibiza so it won’t be the most conventional wedding but then again I’m not the most conventional girl.

So where to begin?

I think the most important thing when planning a wedding is to ensure that it reflects your style and personality so its truly unique to you. So I hope by sharing my journey you can take some of my ideas and make them your own for your special day. There is a lot of information out there when it comes to weddings, some of it good and some not so good. I should know because I’ve spent hours searching the web to find inspiration for our wedding day. To save you some time I’ve picked out my favourite wedding blogs for you to muse over. One of my other favourite places to find great inspiration is Pinterest. For those of you who aren’t familiar Pinterest is a virtual pinboard that lets you organise and share all the beautiful things you find on the web. It’s a great way to plan and visualise your wedding. You can also browse pinboards created by other people and pin their images on to your board. A word of warning though: If you have an addictive personality step away as its highly addictive! To get started, request an invite.

Blog roll please….

Mood board

A mood board is a great way to visualise your big day and is a great tool to use for briefing photographers, wedding planners, makeup artists. I have created several mood boards but unfortunately I can’t show them on here just yet as I don’t want to give too much away to my family and friends. But here is an example that I found on The Songket Affairs Diaries

Getting organised

As geeky as this sounds I’ve become the spreadsheet queen ha lets just forget I said that and move on. I have a fear of Excel so the thought of creating my own spreadsheet is enough to send me over the edge. So I was very happy to discover that there are many free downloadable spreadsheets. The one that I’ve been using is the all-in-one wedding planner by Google & Style Me Pretty. Go to docs.google.com/wedding to learn more.

I hope this is useful and you get some inspiration for your special day. I would love to hear from you so don’t be shy, leave a comment or share some tips that you’ve  learnt along the way.

I’ve been meaning to write about my wedding for some time now but with so much going in in my life I’m a little bit behind so bear with me as I bring you up to speed on my wedding adventure. Stay tuned xxxx
